I really have Coach Darin Scott to thank for why I’m still spending almost every day playing softball.

When I was twelve, I got my first taste of Lindbergh softball at a summer camp. I was pretty awestruck, and a little intimidated, by how good the high school players were. I also realized I had a lot to learn before I was ready for high school ball, and Coach Scott definitely helped me there, coaching me on everything from his “field, funnel, hop” technique to learning to take quality at-bats.

The summer before my first high school tryouts, I had come pretty close to quitting softball altogether, but knowing that I was in for a great experience at Lindbergh always kept me motivated to keep working hard. I’m so thankful that Coach Scott had the confidence in me to let me pitch on Varsity since my freshman year.

Playing for Coach Scott has been a fantastic experience, and he has helped me become a much better player. He is one of my all-time favorite coaches, and I will miss playing for him a lot when I am in college. Next season will be bittersweet, bitter because it’s my last season playing for Lindbergh, but sweet because we’re going to win districts (at least, that’s the plan.)

Thanks, Coach Scott, for inspiring me to always work hard and to play at the highest level I possibly can.

Throughout my 9 years as a swimmer, I’ve had numerous coaches, but the Lindbergh coaches will always be my favorite.

Coach Means has been the head coach of the Girls Swim Team during my four years of high school. While we’ve had our frustrating moments, he has always been supportive. He can be goofy on the pool deck, but serious in moments before an important race. He expects hard work and dedication from us in balance with a fun atmosphere at practice.

When I wanted to quit swimming after my junior year season, he encouraged me to take some time off. Without the leadership of Coach Means and friendship of my fellow swimmers, I might not have have rejoined the sport. I am thankful for Coach Means’ leadership.

“Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was a good time to be growing up there.”

2. What is your favorite childhood memory?

“Going to the local amusement park called Kennywood park. It’s an old fashioned amusement park. We’d go there many weekends.”

3. If you weren’t a teacher, what would be your career choice?

“A committed, full-time writer.”

4. If there was a zombie apocalypse, who would you want your partner in crime to be and what would your weapon of choice be?

“My wife. And a pump action shotgun. They sound good.”

5. What inspires you in your daily decisions on what you wear for the day?

“Generally, I have a notebook of different captions and then I try to find clothes that match them. Notice my pink today. It’s ‘Pinko de Mayo.’”

Teachers are the people who educate us and give us all of the knowledge necessary to strive through life. Mrs. Judy Girard is a business teacher at LHS and she most definitely deserves to be recognized this week. She is always bubbly and has a constant smile on her face. The students at LHS love her just as much as she loves them.

“She’s adorable and she’s one of the only teachers who actually know what she’s talking about because she managed GAP… and her laugh makes my day,” said Brittany Reeves (12).

Mrs. Girard left a very successful career to become a teacher. Everyday, she shows how much she loves her job. Not only does she love her job, but she happens to be very good at it.

“She is super nice and helpful in class. She always knew how to make class fun,” said Thomas Skosky (11).

Mrs. Girard always has a way of making her students feel comfortable and loved. She is always willing to help her students with anything she possibly can, even if it has nothing to do with her class.

“She helped me when I had my broken ankle and she let me do what I had to do to get healed,” said Kevin Amstutz (12).

The kindness and generosity Mrs. Girard portrays is very clear to her students. She will always have a place in the hearts of LHS students. Her spunky attitude and adorable laugh will never be forgotten!

2. What is your favorite childhood memory?

“After school we’d go hunting. We’d raise cows. In the winter, we’d play in the hay barn and swing in on a rope. So lots.”

3. If you weren’t a teacher then what would your career choice be?

“Wow. That’s hard. I’ve been so many things in life already…”

4. Well then what jobs have you had in life?

“A restaurant manager, soldier, electronic technician, a chemist. I was a carpenter too and built houses.”

5. What’s your favorite type of ice cream?

“Cookies and cream.”

5(1/2). If there was a zombie apocalypse, who would you want your “partner in crime” to be, and what would be your weapon of choice?

“Coach Beauchamp (Science Department) because he’s slower than me and they’d be able to get him. And I’m not not sure…a shotgun? No. A chainsaw. I’m partial to chainsaws.”
