There’s no doubt about it, high school students are familiar with stress. From school and homework to relationships and home life, there is constant pressure on students to succeed in all areas of their lives.

“School is probably the most stressful area of my life right now because we come to school for seven hours and then we get three or four more hours of homework to do when we get home,” Cody Sasse (10) said.

This constant workload can be difficult for students to handle, especially those who are in after school activities (like sports) that meet almost every day or clubs that meet once a week.

“My activities can be really hard to fit in with all of my other work,” Emma Bennet (9) said.

With such a large workload, students often find themselves overwhelmed. Luckily, there are several ways to reduce or release these frustrations and focus on the work without panicking.

“For me, the best way to relax is music, whether I’m playing an instrument or just listening to my favorite songs,” Sasse said.

It is scientifically proven that taking a break for some music, tea, exercise, a nap, or just talking to someone can all calm people that are overwhelmed. However, the most surefire way to increase stress is to procrastinate: so taking a few breaks is helpful, but work should get done as quickly as possible.
