It’s rare to find a teacher as passionate about what they do as Mr. Tomey. After school, Mr. Tomey sponsored Environmental Club, and once a week, would eat lunch with his president, in order to plan out which of his classroom creatures they’d put in the glass case outside of his classroom. On Saturdays, he taught photography and field biology classes to middle schoolers. After leaving his career at the zoo, he taught at LHS for 26 years. Yesterday morning (12/9/2017), he passed away after his battle with lymphoma. He will be greatly missed and his legacy at LHS will live on. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family.

Had the joy of being a chaperone on one of the Environmental Club trips that he led with my daughter, Allison. This is a tremendous loss.

The knowledge, love of learning and sense of responsibility that he imparted to his students and all that knew him is an outstanding legacy.

Please look to the passion that Steve brought to his work as inspiration for your own.
