Normally, swimming is associated with hot summer days, but every year, the girls of Lindbergh’s swim team brave freezing cold temperatures outside to practice and race in the indoor pool. Eby Strauss-Barrett (10) is used to the hard work and determination it takes to be involved with the sport. In fact, she’s been swimming ever since she can remember.

“I started swimming as a sport in seventh grade, but I’ve been swimming for fun since Kindergarden,” Strauss-Barrett said.

Normally, members of the swim team practice everyday after school in order to improve their times for their next race. Unfortunately, Strauss-Barrett was injured this season and has not been able to be in the pool as much as previous seasons.

“I over-worked my shoulder, so I haven’t been able to race or even practice much recently and it’s really hard for me to be out of the water for so long,” said Strauss-Barrett.

Even though she has not been able to practice as much recently, Strauss-Barrett is still excited about working towards her goals. She wants to bring down all of her times in the freestyle and backstroke races, but her ultimate goal is to break a minute in the 100 meter freestyle before she graduates. Despite her injury, Strauss-Barrett is still working towards theses goals, and doesn’t know where she would be without her favorite sport.

“Swimming is my everything. It has helped me so much, and I can’t imagine life without it,” said Strauss-Barrett.

Barret has two more years at the LHS and is excited to continue her success.
