The Varsity Volleyball team is full of familiar faces, but this year, the program introduces a brand new face. Ashley Ahrens (9), stunned the coaches and the girls at tryouts with her height, hard work, and ability.

Ahrens is a 5’11” middle-hitter who is brand new to Lindbergh this year, coming from St. Paul Grade School. Playing volleyball for a total of six years now, Ahrens is full of talent. Along with her starting spot on Varsity, Ahrens also plays for Rockwood Thunder’s club team for her age group, a team that just finished third in the Nation this year.

When asked what separated Ahrens from the other girls trying out this summer, her coaching staff had a lot to say.

“She has great athletic ability. She’s played with a club team that just finished third in the nation, so she gained a lot of experience playing girls who will be on varsity at the high school level,” Rob Langevin (Head Coach), said.

Despite her talent, being the only freshmen on the Varsity team cannot be easy.

“I was extremely nervous,” Ahrens said when asked how she felt about being the only Freshman on Varsity.

But, age is nothing but a number to the rest of the team. The other girls did not hesitate to welcome Ahrens with open arms.

“What the Seniors like about Ashley is that she takes coaching and criticism well and does what she is asked. She is also a really reliable teammate and friend” Aly Mee (12) said.

The Flyers had their first win of the season this past Thursday, taking a lead against Fox. Hopefully this season will be filled with many more victories. Ahrens and the rest of the school are confident in their ability, and are hopeful that the best is yet to come.
