As Freshman Grace Leitner enters her first high school season playing varsity tennis, and she wants to make a mark. She has worked hard in the off-season and has already moved up the ranks to the number one spot on the team.
“I’ve played tournaments and matches, and I’ve also gotten to know the girls on the team,” Grace said.
Grace is very dedicated to being good at what she does and wants to do the best she can for her team. Due to her impressive skill set, she is widely respected by the entire program. Grace’s partner, Gabby Moran (10), described what makes Grace a good teammate.
“Grace is really positive and uplifting whenever I miss a shot. She’s very competitive, which makes her a very good tennis player, and she moves on from mistakes really easily. I love being around her.” Grace keeps a positive mindset even when things aren’t going well for herself or her teammates.
Most people thought that an upperclassman would be the captain of the squad this year; however, Jocelyn Davidson (11) explained her appreciation for Grace and how she has battled through adversity to gain respect from the upperclassmen. Jocelyn reflected on a freshman claiming the number one spot on the team.
“I was incredibly proud of Grace, and she has done a great job of keeping a winning streak and just pushing herself to the limits. I expect only great things from here on out!”
