With the start of the new school year, the Pilot Publications class has had a change in management as former copy-editor, Elizabeth Cleary (11), has taken her place as editor-in-chief.
“We definitely have a lot of things this year that I’m looking forward to reading and to exploring,” Cleary said.
Cleary’s passion in journalism has many roots, starting off at a young age when she watched the comedy drama series, Gilmore Girls.
“I really was inspired by watching Gilmore Girls in 7th grade… the main character, she was really into newspaper and so I kind of wanted to follow the avenue myself because I enjoyed writing, I enjoyed reading, I enjoyed all of the English categories,” Cleary said.
From then on, Cleary became more invested with Journalism as she was introduced to a journalism class offered here at LHS.
“My freshmen year I did Intro to Journalism, and I really enjoyed it, so I decided to continue pursuing newspaper,” Cleary said.
After the graduation of the class of 2023, Cleary moved up to the position of editor-in-chief. She hopes to make some changes for this upcoming school year.
“I think last year we had a very good system, and I want to keep a similar system, but I just also want to see what other talents people have, and I want to incorporate that into our work,” Cleary said.
With this new transition of power, Cleary looks over new faces this year and stays hopeful that everyone will do their part for the publication.
“I have a plan, hopefully we stick to that plan and just get a few more out than we were able to last year,” Cleary said.
