As Connor Lanham enters his final year of varsity football at Lindbergh, he looks to make an impact for the Flyers this year in a new position. He transferred from linebacker to leading the offense at running back. It has been a struggle for the senior but he has embraced the change.
“Obviously been a big change for me as a two-way starter on defense sophomore and junior year and then now only offense. It’s been a big change from different aspects, conditioning-wise,” Lanham said.
A lot of change has been made to Lanham in the past year, the most important being how he prepares for gamedays and how it has changed compared to his previous seasons.
“A lot more hydration and definitely having to take a lighter lift on days closer to game days because of taking a lot of beatings and carrying the ball a lot. I’m just making sure I’m staying hydrated, not cramping, and not sore for the games,” Lanham said.
Lanham has taken some big hits, and he credits his ability to take hits consistently to how he changed his post-game recovery and how he treats his body after each game under the lights.
“I started taking ice baths, really trying to get the body recovered and the lactic acid out. And just take a full rest day on Saturday, not doing anything just letting the body fully recover,” Lanham said.
Many things have changed for the senior throughout the years, but he stays persistent. He is off to a great start receiving MVP in the previous game against Ladue, having 2 touchdowns and 257 yards off of 40 carries he only looks to improve.
“I was a little bit worried for the season, just didn’t know where I was going to be at on either side of the ball, just knew I was going to be moved around a little bit. Obviously shows the hard work was paying off last game against Ladue came up with the big with and scored twice,” Lanham said.
