Playing for up to three years as well as being an experienced team leader, Marissa Alozno (11) is an athlete who takes a unique interest in the sporting world of lacrosse and field hockey.
“My sister played for both of them and she kind of got me into it, so I decided to join,” Alonzo said.
Since last year, Alonzo has stood as the captain over the field hockey team, looking over 15 people, including herself. She was also the captain for the lacrosse team last season, with the potential to captain this upcoming season as well.
As of earlier this year, the lacrosse team won its first game within its tournament. The team lost their second game and, unfortunately, the third was canceled due to an outbreak of rain that day.
Despite the devastation of its cancellation, Alonzo felt her team would have secured a win.“I think we would have done pretty well, she said.”
Alonzo continues to manage both lacrosse and field hockey, spending up to an hour or two practicing during weekdays while also competing in games on the weekend. Alonzo hopes to have another tournament soon and looks forward to playing with her teammates as she’s improved over her three years.
“I think my coach has helped me improve playing games, playing with teammates and then doing club over the summer,” Alonzo said.
