Foodie and Hello Kitty lover Lindsey Pham (11) is truly at home when, ironically, she’s away from home. She has traveled around a few continents, including Asia, which was a “dream come true.”
“Japan is simply beautiful, seeing things I never thought I would see. Of course, getting around was tough, with the language barrier and all that. However, it all worked out in the end, ” Pham said.
Pham, being Vietnamese herself, also had great experiences during her trip to Vietnam.
“Getting to see family again was amazing! I may not remember them that much, but talking to them and learning about each other again is a pleasure,” Pham said.
Seeing family was not the only pleasure Vietnam had in store for her. The culture and way of living captured her interest.
“Vietnam amazes me all the time. From their very cheap prices, how they can handle hot weather, clothing, and did I mention cheap? Seriously, you can buy a three-course meal on the street and it will only add up to being two dollars,” Pham said.
The food in Vietnam was better than any souvenir Pham could have gotten. She recalled a street restaurant that had amazing food.
“…I don’t remember the name [of the restaurant], but I had Bún bò Huế, which is a rice noodle dish with sliced beef. I swear I could have cried at how good it was,” Pham said.
While she loved Japan and Vietnam, one of her favorite trips was to the Bahamas, which had a variety of fun opportunities.
“My favorite part was visiting Pig Beach, where I got to see and pet so many cute pigs. Visiting the water parks and shops was also a blast. In the Bahamas, they have their own currency, but they accepted U.S. currency, thankfully,” Pham commented.
Pham’s trip for next summer is already planned and she is looking forward to it with excitement and optimism.
“Next summer’s plan is China. I don’t know what will happen, but this time, I’ll try and not buy too many things and won’t need to buy another suitcase!” Pham said.
Pham is far from done when it comes to traveling. She has a few places in mind that she’d love to experience.
“…I hope I can travel to Cambodia or Jamaica! Why? I don’t know! I love exploring new places and want to learn more about all the other cultures around the world,” Pham explained. “Traveling there is barely a first step.”
