Prom and Planning 

On May second, the seniors got ready to go to prom, but there was a new location. This is the second year the Hilton Frontenac hosted Lindbergh’s prom. The change in location was caused by factors such as price, space and traffic, forcing Lindbergh to pick somewhere else. Josh Piontek, the head organizer of prom at Lindbergh Schools, explained why the change  of venues was needed.

“One year, there was a City SC game happening at the same time as prom, making traffic and parking awful. Plus, the game was letting out at the same time as prom, and that also created many problems. That, combined with the rising price of Union Station, led the administration to ask me to start scouting new locations. Frontenac is also a very safe part of town,” said Piontek.

Mr. Piontek said that finding the right location for prom  is not just about space, but also the math and decorations.

“Location and price. Some venues can get very expensive very quickly,” Piontek said. “I can really up the amount of decorations we have for the event because there is more space. This also changes the maximum number of students we can have at prom. What many people do not realize is that once an event gets over 300 people, it really limits the number of venues that can host you, and there are even fewer places that can host over 650 people,” said Piontek.

Some seniors have differing opinions on what makes a good place for prom, and as prom has already happened, students reflected on why they enjoyed prom so much and what made it so good. Ayamae Anderson, a senior at Lindbergh who attended prom, remembered her experience.

“The music and the atmosphere that is created at the event is what made it good. If the vibes are off, then the whole night just goes downhill from there,” said Anderson.

Evan Scheidenhelm, a junior and Lindbergh student who also attended prom, agreed and explained what made a quality prom.

“Honestly, like, the music that’s played is a huge part of it; the music at prom can make or break the night because it can either help hype people up or have no one dancing,” said Scheidenhelm.

Many students seemed to enjoy prom and have a great time. With the help and organization of Mr. Piontek, students said everything went smoothly. Anderson her favorite parts of the event.

“The food and music were amazing, especially the mini crab cakes, they were fire. Overall, my prom night was actually pretty great,” Anderson said. 

Scheidenhelm reinforced this with his opinion on his prom participation.

“I was excited about prom, and I really enjoyed it. It was fun. I really like the part about dressing up with your friends and, like, going out to dinner, so yeah, I would say I had a pretty good time,” said Scheidenhelm.
